Months ago me and Mr New Soul City Design stumbled across a small park near the Ness Islands. It seemed to have tracks and trails worn into the grass and undergrowth but the most amazing things were these huge plywood monuments – almost as if a big pipe had been cut in half. We hadn’t a clue – we’re old. We took some photos and left.
Imagine my surprise today when out for a wee drive with La Familie Dontblog (that’s French you know – we’re quite cosmopolitanese when we want to be……) that same small park was pure hoaching with Da Yoof along with people of my own age and in between !! Sun was out and the tunes were pumping (I believe that’s the terminology).
The unbelievable science fiction type bit was that the majority of these people were bombing around the aforementioned tracks on small bicycle type affairs which appeared to have no brakes and other modifications. Aye, that and, wait for it, roller skate wheels attached to wee small mini surfboards !! I was going fucking nuts at this point I can tell you – the car was stopped, the D7100 was ripped into action and I had an absolute ball for an hour or so with the 18 – 140 and the 10 – 24.
Ok so the ACTUAL deal here was that this was the Farewell Ramp meet organised by the Highland Skate Parks Association and Creative Skate Store here in Inverness. This is the final official ‘skate about’ (that is the new official terminology wot I just inventimified today) and the work on the new improved all singing all dancing all skating all bmxing park gets underway over the next week or two !! I’m looking forward to the opening cos this is the shit I like to photograph. Excellent – well organised event and what a fucking day they got for it !! More power to you young skater types !! I’m yer new biggest fan ! Heres a rake of images from today – I don’t know names of people, moves or equipment and don’t expect me to do any research on your behalf – I’m a lazy bastard. Get googling 🙂
