Has anyone used ‘magical’ yet to describe the evening? I’m going to but I need to add a few extras to make it sound less wank. Here goes………The evening was Magical. Magical like a unicorn on mushrooms tripping through the tide at Cromarty being driven by a wizard from Ardersier wearing a pointy hat and a kilt made from the finest gossamer while eating an ice cream slider made from people’s dreams. (What the fuck is gossamer anyway ?) AYE !! That magical !! (and YES, you drive a Unicorn)
LADIES AND GENELMUN, THIS WAS CALL TO MIND AT EDEN COURT
Went to gig. 2 camera bodies. 5 lenses. Didnt shoot the performance. Say Whaaaaaa ? Didn’t even do any videos……….. Oh no he didunt !!
This was a gig worthy of not standing about pointing cameras at people and getting in folks faces as I normally tend to do. Quite a special evening indeed. (Okay I did take photos from my seat in the back row of the audience but only one or two and they were shit. See Below) Instead I was given free reign to hang around during set-up and rehearsal and snap away and be treated very lovelilly by the ladies and gentlemen involved with the event.
Augmented for the night by Cairn String Quartet and visuals by Mark Lyken and Emma Dove, this was to be a pretty interesting gig which I wanted to watch and experience rather than document for others – does that make sense or sound selfish ?? EC isn’t the venue most conducive to gig shooting – for me anyway – the stage is low and the seats start a matter of inches back from the edge of it. I opted for planting my arse on a chair and taking in the aforementioned magical atmosphere and being a (half-cut) punter !! Pretty much used the D7100 for the whole of todays two events (in fact I sold the D200 3 days later – another story……). Spent the afternoon shooting at a local hotel for an oil company family day and went straight to Eden Court from there (after a gin and tonic or two of course – be rude not to – that just continued. I’m so unprofessional sometimes………).
Great gig – Dr Wook had Staff Nurse Elliott on hand to do his finest noodling. Really boosted Kris’ sound to another level adding extra layers of Pel Pasta to the Wook audio-lasagne creating a sound that would fit right in with tonights ‘ethereal’ and, dare I say it again, magical bent !! Magical Bent / Classical Bent ?? (sorry – dressing room in-joke that I’ve even forgotten the origin of……). They even had the Cairn lassies stringing along while they set up for soundcheck – which was nice………
Call to Mind and the ladies of The Cairn String Quartet were wonderful. Magical even………(shut the fuck up about magical you twat !! ). Nice to see them on that stage, that big stage. Nowhere to hide. They didn’t need to nor did they intend to. Steinway got played. It got wheeled out earlier in the day and I thought it was a snooker table till they took the cover off it. Well, I wasnt sure how high the rock n roll excess levels would reach. They played all the hits blah blah blah, Jamie Ross got naked and slept inside the grand piano and Netsounds had cider – always the sign of a good night. There you have it – if you weren’t there then you should have been !! Absolutely everything worked !! Lets make it an annual event !! Next time I’ll shoot the gig !!
As always I have, of course, ran out of steam on the writing front – I need to try to stop this happening but for now – that’s yer lot – Time I stopped typing the pish and posted some images then. Loads more over on the falsebook HERE
Thank you Call to Mind, Wook and Pel, The Cairn String Quartet, Netsounds, Super Calum, Lloyd and the Olive Groovers, Eden Court and 2010 Management for letting me loose and being nice to me (mostly…….) – I love you all dearly – honest x
