“Lets raise 500 quid for the local Special Care Baby Unit” said Kris Douglas aka Dr Wook just over a year ago and SCBUstock was born. 2 months and £12000 quid later a new charity event had been a roaring success here in the Scottish Highlands. YES, 12 grand. Kris and Steph Douglas and their team of ticket sellers, facebookers, tweeters and huge hearted local businesses and individuals had put together an event which raised a 5 figure sum to help buy equipment for the Unit at Raigmore Hospital. It seemed almost everyone had a connection of some kind with the Unit. They do some utterly amazing work and were on hand for wee Sam, the Douglas’ son when he was born. Unbelievably proud and honoured to call Team Douglas our friends !!
I was privileged to be present with a camera throughout the process – to be honest they couldn’t get rid of me. Its taken me a year to post something properly and this still wont convey the enormous effort put in to garner that incredible response from the local community but it might get the word out to a few more people about SCBUstock.
This years event takes place on the 27th February – tickets are still available as are raffle tickets and a limited edition run of commemorative t-shirts (designed by yours truly and donated by The Sign Centre here in Inverness)
For more information about the 2016 event and the story so far have a look down the timeline over on the Facebook page HERE. In the meantime here are some photos – you saw that coming didn’t you 🙂
This acoustic guitar was emblazoned with the work of local tattoo artist, Kenny Howden, of Inverness Tattoo Centre and was destined to be auctioned off on the night. It actually now hangs on Sams bedroom wall in the Douglas household. A group of their friends and family decided that the guitar needed to stay with the family and grouped together to put in a 4 figure sum at the auction and presented it back to Kris & Steph. They had no idea and we had no dry eyes left. An amazing moment !!
The event itself saw a hugely successful raffle, the auction and some damned fine funk, folk, and rock n roll from local acts The Whiskys, The Little Mill of Happiness, Iain Mclaughlin & the Outsiders, The Leonard Jones Potential and Tabs & Willie Macaskill…….
